History

Niños en Alegría (NEA) was created in 2003 to improve the environment and educational conditions of the children in slum areas in the state of Guerrero.  The main objective of the foundation is to maximize the social and educational potential of the local children.

NEA is the only civil association in Guerrero that is dedicated to Educational Infrastructure.  The socioeconomic context where the Foundation operates is the slum neighborhoods in the municipality of Acapulco de Juárez.

NEA started in 2004 with the reconstruction and equipping of public elementary school “Adolfo Lopez Mateos“ and in 2005 the primary school “Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez“.  In 2008 NEA built and gave supplies to the primary school “Rodolfo Neri Vela”.

In 2007 NEA became an operating partner of UNICEF in the state of Guerrero, to develop the program “Todos a la Escuela”. The objective of the program is for all the boys and girls to have access to education.  This idea then became a public policy in the state of Guerrero.

In 2009 NEA started the construction and equipment of the primary school “Carlos Madrazo” which opened in late 2010.

The construction of the Kindergarden “Tierra y Libertad” started in 2011 and it opened on May 13th, 2012.

In May 2012 NEA began the construction of two new schools, “Alejandro Cervantes Delgado” and “Raymundo Abarca Alarcon”. Both schools will open in late 2013.

In March 2013, the ground-breaking ceremony for the primary schools “Justo Sierra/Benito Juarez” (morning/evening shift) took place. Construction will be done by the end of this year.

With the collaboration of Niños en Alegría, the Secretaría de Educación and our benefactors, 2631 children have received our help. THANK YOU!!!
